Crime Statistics

Better data and improved national capacity to collect data are needed to support and enhance the international community's response to the challenges of crime. Result area 2.1.1 of the UNODC strategy foresees "Enhanced knowledge of trends including emerging trends in drug and specific crime issues available to Member States and the international community".

Working in that direction, UNODC:

Performs international collection of crime statistics from Member States and disseminates cross-national crime statistics series
Cross-national crime statistics available from UNODC:
Crime data provided by countries through The periodic " United Nations Survey of Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems" (CTS)

UNODC International Homicide Statistics (IHS)
Develops international standards and recommendations for crime statistics, including the development of standardized methodology, classifications, definitions and indicators to enhance the comparability of crime statistics at international level
