Project title

"Expansion of HIV/AIDS Prevention Services and Capacity of the Addiction Counseling Center in Talsi"

Project goal and objectives
  • To promote the accessibility of HIV/AIDS prevention services for IDU's in Talsi;
  • To increase the capacity of the Addiction Counseling Center and to provide for IDU's needle/syringe exchange and counseling programs.
Results

1. Improved outreach work accessibility for IDU:

  • Increased the number of outreach workers (at the beginning of project was 1, at the end of project 2);
  • Increased the number of educated IDU, who are involved in outreach work (at the beginning of project - 0, at the end - 2);
  • Increased the number of new clients IDU (at the beginning of project - 14, at the end - 36);
  • Increased the number of regular clients (at the beginning of project - 9, at the end - 32);
  • Increased the number of distributed HIV prevention materials for IDUs: syringes (at the beginning of project - 1207, at the end - 1882), needles (at the beginning of project - 380, at the end - 634), condoms (at the beginning of project - 75, at the end - 614);
  • Increased the number of returned used syringes (at the beginning of project - 1020, at the end - 1185), needles (at the beginning of project - 320, at the end - 469).

2. Provided informative and consultative support and realized HIV express tests for IDU:

  • Increased the number of provided consultations for new clients (at the beginning of project - 17, at the end - 49), regular clients (at the beginning of project - 20, at the end - 36);
  • Increased the number of disseminated HIV prevention materials, syringes (at the beginning of project -1690, at the end - 2664), needles (at the beginning of project - 260, at the end - 408), condoms (at the beginning of project - 105, at the end - 645);
  • Increased the number of returned used syringes (at the beginning of project - 1610, at the end - 1256), needles (at the beginning of project - 190, at the end -294);
  • Performed HIV express tests (at the beginning of project - 5, at the end - 44), hepatitis B express tests (at the beginning of project - 0, at the end - 38), hepatitis C express tests (at the beginning of project -0, at the end - 50).

3. Prepared and disseminated 1000 information leaflets about HIV prevention service in Talsi.

4.  Organized motivational work- conducted IDU support group meetings (at the beginning of project - 10, at the end - 20), individual consultations (at the beginning of project - 0, at the end - 30).

5. Improved working conditions in the Talsi Addiction Counseling Center.

6. Organized project final event.
