Project title

The main goal of the project is to improve and expand effective HIV / AIDS prevention among injecting drug users in Jurmala by establishment of new stationary low-threshold center. Project objectives are:

• To improve the needle and syringe programs coverage;
  
• To encourage IDUs take part in pharmacological treatment programs;
  
• To provide voluntary HIV testing and counseling;
  
• To develop drug overdose prevention programme as well as other harm reduction programs in Jurmala.

• Established addiction prevention center in Jurmala, which is working 5 days a week;
• The Center had attracted 114 customers / planned amount 100;
• HIV express testing is available in Jurmala again. During project we conducted 35 tests;
• Needle and syringe programme started in the center: distributed 13,200 syringes, collected 10,713 used syringes, instead of 6000 planned; distributed 6959 needles, collected  5867 needles, instead of 5000  planned;
• Provision of regular consultation of  IDUs. Performed consultations - 514 / planned 400;
• Regular publicity activities about the project. 13 publications in website www.iemetaci.lv, issued 1000 stickers and 388 lighters with information about the center.
