Project title

"Implementation of targeted HIV prevention activities among commercial sex workers and improvement of current services' effectiveness"

Project goal and objectives
  • Reduce HIV prevalence by implementing HIV prevention and harm reduction activities;
  • Reduce risk of blood born diseases by involving new clients in the programme;
  • Renew outreach work;
  • Motivation and support of volunteers.
Results Increased the number of first time contacts with commercial sex worker's (CSW) (at the beginning of project - 40, at the end - 182).
Increased the number of regular clients CSW (at the beginning of project - 38, at the end - 70).
A little decreased the number of first time contacts with IDU's (at the beginning of project - 1036, at the end - 900).
Recruited 4 outreach workers and 2 volunteers.
Increased the number of distributed and returned syringes, as well as the number of distributed condoms and performed HIV tests for CSW:
  • number of distributed syringes at the beginning of project - 1 500, at the end - 11 199 (planned 10 000);
  • number of returned syringes at the beginning of project - 500, at the end - 5 456 (planned 5 000);
  • number of distributed condoms at the beginning of project  - 1 500, at the end - 10 732 (planned 10 000);
  • number of performed HIV tests at the beginning of project  - 10, at the end - 96 (planned 100).
Reached positive results renewing outreach work in the places where IDU's meet:
  • number of distributed syringes at the beginning of project - 0, at the end - 133 022 (planned 78 000);
  • number of returned syringes at the beginning of project - 0, at the end - 107 772 (planned 20 000);
  • number of distributed condoms at the beginning of project  - 0, at the end - 5 901 (planned 3 000).
