Project title

Main goal of the project is prevention of HIV transmission among IDU's in Vilnius Correction House No. 2 and Alytus Correction House.

Project objectives:

• To start self-help groups for high risk group members in Vilnius Center for Addictive Disorders, Vilnius Correction House No. 2 and Alytus Correction House;
• To provide information on rehabilitation, substitution treatment and HIV treatment for the self-help group members;
• To consult target group members on individual cases;
• To organize informational seminars for Vilnius and Alytus Correction Houses staff members about the project and work with HIV positive or high risk group members;
• To exchange syringes among target group members;
• To direct interested IDUs to the rehabilitation centres;
• To disseminate information about organization activities, project and results.

NGO "Pusiaukelis" organized self-help group meetings in Vilnius Center for Addictive Disorders, Vilnius Correction House No. 2, Alytus Correctional House. A cycle of self-help group meetings in all settings was conducted by peer group member - former IDU's.  The meetings took place take place every week at Vilnius Center for Addictive Disorders, every second week at Vilnius Correction House No. 2 and every second week at Alytus Correction House. In total there were 22 meetings arranged in Vilnius Center for Addictive Disorders, 20 meetings at Vilnius Correction House No. 2 and 13 meetings at Alytus Correction House.  The duration of one meeting - 2-3 hours. Social psychological consultations on individual issues for the target group members after self-help group meetings were organized.

Posters and leaflets were prepared and disseminated for the target group members.

Meetings with the staff members of Vilnius Correction House No. 2 and Alytus Correction house were conducted in order to get feedback of the project implementation, to discuss possibilities how to improve the activities and how to overcome challenges and problems. Workshops on HIV prevention and treatment were also held in  rehabilitation centre "Pusiaukelis". Duration of one workshop - 4 hours.

• Number of self help groups - 3;
• Number of people taking active part in self-help groups - 125;
• Number of people informed about HIV prevention and treatment - 620;
• Number of group meetings in Vilnius Center for Addictive Disorders, Vilnius Correction House No. 2 and Alytus Correction House - 55;
• Number of informational training sessions for Vilnius Correction House No. 2 and Alytus Correction House staff - 8;
• Number of former IDU's at the rehabilitation center "Pusiaukelis" taking part in workshops on HIV prevention and tested for HIV - 15;
• Number of produced and distributed leaflets - 50;
• Number of produced and distributed posters - 15.
