INTRAID services - The Bolivian White Cross

Interns at the INTRAID - White Cross

The National Institute for Treatment, Rehabilitation, Reinsertion and Investigation on Drug Dependency (INTRAID La Paz), depends upon the Health Department Unit and the Bolivian White Cross. INTRAID serves the community through the work of a professional team, with the following programmes:

  • The Welcome programme, which is dedicated to securing, motivating and increasing awareness amongst drug abusers.
  • Community Therapy, is dedicated to the rehabilitation of addicts through hospitalisation using a cognition - behaviour model, on a professional level, it is non-custodial and do not use medicine.
  • The Clinic Treatment Programme, which specialises in psychological problems using a psychoanalysis model without hospitalisation.
  • The Reinsertion Programme for the rehabilitation of people with drug abuse problems in the family, work or social environment.
  • The Integral Prevention programme, aimed at reducing drug demand working in schools and other organised groups reinforcing positive attitudes towards family, the community, ecology, self-esteem, solidarity, etc.
  • The Mental Health Programme, aimed at improving the quality of life of individuals by encouraging them to take initiatives in self-development in physical, psychological, social and spiritual levels.
  • The Human Resources Programme, aimed at forming and training professionals in prevention and treatment of drug addicts in the formal and non-formal fields through cooperation with the San Andres University, the Bolivian Catholic University and the Nuestra Se�ora de La Paz University.
  • Group Therapy, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Drug addicts Anonymous, Al-Anon (for families of users), Alfa groups (for families of the mentally disturbed) and Troubled Relations.
  • The Help Line, an emergency telephone line which can be called in critical situations such as suicide attempts, anxiety, depression, marital problems, family violence and in any other situation of conflict. The calls are free and the caller remains anonymous. It runs 24 hours a day.
