Law enforcement agencies in Kyrgyzstan cooperate for better combating illicit drugs

Bishkek. April 6 th, 2016 . The State Service on Drug Control and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic signed a set of regulations on mutual cooperation on drug prevention measures, combating trafficking of illicit drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Melis Turganbaev and the Chairman of the State Service on Drug Control Mr. Rafik Mambetaliev expressed confidence that the signed regulations will lead to greater and more effective cooperation between the two law enforcement agencies. Representatives of the US embassy in Kyrgyzstan, the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the Kyrgyz Republic took part at the event and conveyed their optimism regarding the newly formed cooperation.      

The signing of this document marks a significant step in the country's efforts in fighting illicit drugs and in further developing the State Service on Drug Control into an effective and sustainable specialized law enforcement agency.

UNODC's support was noteworthy in the signing of the document, as UNODC is committed to achieving health, security and justice for all by tackling threats from illicit drugs, organized crime and terrorism worldwide.
