One UN - A Stronger UN

The Press Conference on the occasion of the 70 th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations Organization held on 23th October in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.  Mass media representatives, UN heads of agencies took part in it. UN Day was a chance to recognize how much the UN contributes day to day to peace, development, humanitarian issues and human rights. In Uzbekistan the main line of work is on development: intricately connected to MDG agenda that is coming to an end this year. Over the last 22 years the UN delivered technical assistance to Uzbekistan of more than USD 434 million, to support economic, governance, healthcare and education reforms. UN also supports efforts to counter drug trafficking, to protect the cultural heritage and environment and to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS.

"The UN General Assembly has mandated the UN system to become more coherent, effective and efficient, - said Mr. Stefan Prielsner, UN Resident Coordinator. - We believe that a more coherent UN is a stronger UN that can deliver on its mandate - hence we will go ahead as one UN. Media is a very important partner for us.  Today, while we are commemorating the 70 th anniversary of the UN, let us pledge together to live up to our founding ideals and work together for peace, development and human rights".
