Risk Analysis, Search Techniques and Drug Identification at Uzbek-Afghan border: Interagency Mobile Teams of Uzbekistan

15-20 April 2019,Termez, Uzbekistan - Practical training on Risk Analysis, Search Techniques and Drug Identification was organized by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for Central Asia in Termez and at the "Ayritom" Border Crossing Point at the Uzbek-Afghan border for the Interagency Mobile Teams of Uzbekistan. The training was conducted within the framework of the initiative on "Countering trafficking of Afghan narcotics in Uzbekistan through establishment of Interagency Mobile Teams."

46 officers from the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Customs Committee and the National Information-Analytical Center on Drug Control under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, assigned to the Interagency Mobile Teams and their Operations Coordination Team, participated at the training.

The opening ceremony of the training was attended by Mr. Tolib Saidov, the Head of the Department of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Surkhandarya region, and Mr. Shukhrat Buronov, First Deputy Head of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Surkhandarya region, who in their opening remarks noted the importance of organizing such training courses, which increase the level of operative skills by the officers and enable them to share experience with their counterparts from other countries.

The training was facilitated by an expert from the Turkish International Academy Against Drugs and Organized Crime (TADOC) and officers of the Mobile Detection Teams of the Counter Narcotics Police of Afghanistan.

The training covered sessions on risk analysis, search techniques, interview techniques, body language and also a presentation by the officers of the Mobile Detection Teams of the Counter Narcotics Police of Afghanistan on seizures and trafficking methods encountered in their practice.

The participants had a chance to exercises risk analysis, screening and inspection methods on the example of international route vehicles coming to Uzbekistan from Afghanistan at the Ayritom Border Crossing Point at the Uzbek-Afghan border.

The initiative on "Countering trafficking of Afghan narcotics in Uzbekistan through establishment of Interagency Mobile Teams" is being implemented under Sub-Programme 1 of the UNODC Programme for Central Asia (2015-2019) and generously funded by the Government of Japan.
