Ankara, Turkey, 4-8 March 2018   - UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia conducted a training on organized crime for the officers of the Interagency Mobile Teams (IMT) of Uzbekistan and their Operation Coordination Team at the Turkish International Academy against Drugs and Organized Crime (TADOC) as a part of the initiative on countering trafficking of Afghan narcotics in Uzbekistan through establishment of IMTs of the UNODC Programme for Central Asia (2015-2019).

The delegation of 25 officers from the State Security Service, the Ministry of Interior, the State Customs Committee and the National Information-Analytical Center on Drug Control under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan acquired valuable knowledge and skills on various aspects of organized crime investigations and learned about the experience of Turkey in fighting organized crime.

During the opening ceremony, Mr. Oguzhan Yonca, Deputy Head of Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department of Turkish National Police noted that, "the Interagency Mobile Teams are composed of young bright officers, which gives assurances that their knowledge and skills will be retained and transferred further and that the initiative, in general, will have successful continuation in the future".

Topics covered during the training included; legislative frameworks, organized crime investigation principles, methods and strategies, case development, preparation for taking testimonies and strategies for formulating interrogation questions.

During the training, theoretical material was complemented by the discussion of real-life cases, interactive sessions and role-games simulating different scenarios of the investigative process.

The overall assessment of the training by the participants was very positive.
