UNODC Facilitated a Successful Workshop on Anti-Money Laundering for the Specialists in Turkmenistan

9-12 September 2019, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan - UNODC Programme Office in Turkmenistan successfully conducted training on "International AML/CFT standards" for the members of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan and Financial Monitoring Service. The training was conducted by  Ms. Oxana Gisca - chief inspector at the Office for Prevention and Fight Against Money Laundering in Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption in the Republic of Moldova, Liliya Khamzina, managing director and chief compliance officer at ATF Bank, and Tatiana Muntean, consultant and training expert at UNODC Headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

Nineteen officials of the Ministry of Finance and Economy in Turkmenistan and Financial Monitoring Service actively participated in practical exercises, Q&As and case studies presentations. The training focused on delivering concepts of FATF methodology, evaluation procedures, Egmont information exchange principles, customer due diligence and data storage, detection and analysis of money laundering, confiscation financial investigation units and investigations, targeted financial sanctions and countering "financing terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction" in the financial sector.

UNODC experts were utmost content with the level of participation, curiosity and eagerness of the participants. The participants found the workshop to be very useful, having stressed its importance and practical applicability that allowed them to improve their knowledge and skills. At the end of the training, participants were awarded with the "Certificate of Completion".

The training was concluded with the final speech delivered by Mr. Chary Atayev, Head of the UNODC Programme Office in Turkmenistan, who expressed his gratitude to the national partners for taking an active role to be part of the training, as well as international partners for helping with the organization of the training, and experts for their contribution to a successful completion of the training.

The training was conducted as a part of the UNODC - USAID initiative to support the Turkmensitan government and is generously funded by  USAID/Turkmenistan Governance Support Program (GSP).
