World Drug Report 2017: opioids were the most harmful drug type

Press conference on the occasion of 26 June - International Day against Drug Abuse and Drug Trafficking and Launch of Drug World Report 2017 held at UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia. This year UNODC is launching a new format, with the report available as five separate booklets: the executive summary, together with the report's conclusions and policy implications; a global overview of drug use and supply; a market analysis of plant-based drugs; a market analysis of synthetic drugs; and a thematic booklet on the links between drugs and organized crime, illicit financial flows, corruption and terrorism. This have been  done in response to readers' needs and to improve user-friendliness, while maintaining the rigorous standards expected from the Office's flagship publication.

Ashita Mittal, UNODC Regional Representative for Central Asia presented main funding of the report including Central Asian region to the journalists. She also delivered the UNODC Executive Director Yury Fedotov's message on 26 June including slogan of the world wide campaign which is "Listen first".

Akhmed Mansurov, the Director of National Center on Drug Control under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan informed the mass media on drug control situation in the country, results of law enforcement agency's work, and patterns in drug use, treatment as well as prevention activities among youth and their families. Finally, he invited media to the drug burning ceremony, organized by the government, which held today in Tashkent.
