COSURCA

Cooperative of coffee-cultivators in the south of Cauca

COSURCA is made up of 13 organizations of producers in four municipalities in the high mountain region of the Colombian Massif. Since 1993, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Government of Colombia have assisted these organizations, and in addition, since 2000, they could also count on the assistance of USAID. Currently, COSURCA consists of 1024 families of small coffee cultivators.

Traditionally, COSURCA cultivates Arabia and Organic coffee. On specialized international coffee markets, these types of coffee have become well sought after. COSURCA coffee is sold on fair trade markets in Europe and the United States and in Colombia by the supermarket chain Carrefour. The profit made by the sold coffee is redistributed in a fair manner amongst the associated families of COSURCA.

These coffee producing families have organized themselves to confront poverty, the violence of armed groups, and the growth of coca and amapola cultivations. By selling their coffee, the linked persons of this project improve their conditions of life and preserve their natural environment.

COSURCA COFEE PRODUCTS

ORGANIC COFEE is coffee produced under ecological production standards and without chemical additives of synthetic use. It is free of practices that could negatively affect either human health, or the environment..

EXCELSO COFEE is coffee of excellent quality and produced under highest international standards.

TRADITIONAL COFEE is coffee that is precision-roasted to the point of maximum flavour which will satisfy the consumer of Colombian coffee.
