Viet Nam launches additional computer-based training centres

Hanoi (Viet Nam), 25 November 2010
- Between 8 and 12 November, Viet Nam and UNODC joined forces in the fight against money-laundering. In addition to the already existing computer-based training centres in Viet Nam, two more centres were opened, one in Hanoi and one in Ho Chi Minh. The establishment of these additional centres was made possible through the support and joint cooperation of the Ministry of Public Security, the People's Police Academy and UNODC.

UNODC project in Viet Nam on strengthening legal and law enforcement institutions in preventing and combating money-laundering, plays a key role in the coordination and funding of the computer-based training centres. Altogether 40 computers were procured and evenly distributed between the centre at the People's Police Academy in Hanoi and the police headquarters in Ho Chi Minh.

Training will be delivered to law enforcement and judiciary officers from the police force, the Supreme People's Procuracy, the Supreme People's Court, the Border Army Command, the General Department of Customs and the State Bank.

UNODC computer-based training programme is an interactive e-Learning tool consisting of high quality graphics, animation, videos and voiceovers. Student interaction forms an integral part of the training programme.

The computer-based course on money-laundering explains in detail what money-laundering entails, how to detect money-laundering and what techniques law enforcement officers can use to gather evidence and prosecute money-launderers.
