The UNODC programme is expanding to other regional states. It offers a package of support to the police, prosecutors, courts and prison of those countries who are willing to play their part in the prosecution of pirates.
Amongst the support that may be available is:
-Provision of police mentors
-Prison refurbishment and management training
-Law of the sea, police and prosecutorial training
-Logistic and office support
-Equipping of courtrooms and judicial training
-Assistance with the review of pending criminal cases to reduce courtroom loading and prison overcrowding.
