Overview of events
The Executive Director met with Lebanon's President Emile Lahud and Prime Minister Soliman Al Hoss. He also met with Mr. Michael Al-Murr, Deputy Prime Minister, the Minster of Interior and the General Director of the Internal Security Forces, General Abdel Karim Ibrahim.
School children in the Bekaa Valley presented the Executive Director with roses in appreciation (see photo at left) of UNDCP's efforts for better future for them. " UNDCP helped us and helped our families to be able to dream into the future" said Samia, a 5th grade child.
The Egyptian Anti Narcotics General Administration hosted a demand reduction expert meeting, where the Executive Director praised the eradication efforts of the Egyptian anti Narcotics General Administration in Sinai.
The Executive Director visited the Bekaa Valley where UNDCP's Baalbeck-Hermel Regional Development Programme is being implemented. Alternative development at Baalbeck region has helped citizens to develop their home products through micro loans provided under UNDCP financial assistance.
The Executive Director met with senior officials and elected representatives of the Bekaa Valley and praised Lebanon as "one of the success stories in eradicating illicit drugs"
