Overview of events
The workshop discussed the results of the Rapid assessment Study (RAP) undertaken by the Ministry of Health and financed by UNDCP. The two-day event was attended by 200 drug treatment specialists, (see photo at left) academics, NGOs, representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior and UN Agencies in Egypt.
The Minster of Health announced that "drug awareness messages will be integrated into the national health education theme."
Three Focus Group workshops were held to discuss: "the size and nature of the drug problem," "awareness and prevention," and "demand reduction."
The seminar received wide media coverage including a live discussion of the topic involving the UNDCP Representative on the Egyptian TV show "Good Morning Egypt."
