1. In Lunglei District, as a build up to the commemorate 26th June, Football tournament was organised for under 22 years in which 18 teams from Lunglei District participated.
2. A talk show on issues of substance abuse in Mizoram was held in which the panel of experts included Medical doctors from Presbyterian Hospital Durtlang, Higher Secondary School teachers, Drug inspector Lunglei District and NGOs implementing UNODC Projects in Lunglei District, Project officer, UNODC-CHARCA, Aizawl.
Participants at the talk show included people from sections of society including the Church, YMA, MHIP and also recovering Drug users. The show was telecasted by the local cable channel on 26th June.
3. To kick start the event a rally was organised in which NGOs, CBOs and students of 4 high & higher secondary schools participated. The rally commenced from both the Northern & Southern end of lunglei town and ended at Saikuti Hall in which the main function was to be held. The total number of participants at the rally is estimated at about 500. The main function commenced after the arrival of the participants at the rally. The Chief Guest for the occasion was the Minister I/c Sports & Youth Affairs and the Chairman for the occasion was the Chief Medical Officer Cum Secretary District AIDS Committee. The event was well attended by Govt officials of the district, NGOs implementing Drugs & HIV/AIDS Prevention Programmes and School Students. Recovering addicts currently working as outreach workers & Peer Educators under UNODC projects shared their testimony. A session was also held Drug Abuse scenario in Mizoram in which presentation with slide shows was made Dr. R.L Sanghluna, Medical officer Durtlang Hospital Aizawl in order to create awareness among the participants specially the youth. The event was very educative and informative. Various top artist of Lunglei District participate in the programme. The Chief Guest for the occasion also distributed prizes to the champions of the under 22 football tournament. Certificate of participation was also awarded to all the football clubs which had participated in the tournament.
4. The media has played a very proactive role in creating awareness about Drug Abuse in lunglei district and have been played a very supportive role in organizing the event to commemorate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. A friendly football match was organised in which members of the Journalist association played against the workers/ clients of WADA, and NGO implementing G-86 & I-49 project. This match was played in order to generate awareness on substance abuse among the masses.
