The department of social welfare of the Delhi government along with World Health Organisation on Friday organised a series of public events to spread awareness about AIDS with the support of civil society.
The highlights of the World AIDS Day was the seminar on HIV/AIDS and drug abuse. More than 600 youth volunteers were also sensitised and motivated to bring out more awareness and spread the information about AIDS and drug abuse. The seminar was followed by a symbolic run flagged of by Delhi chief minister Mrs Sheila Dikshit in which recovered addicts, medical doctors, drug counsellors, institution heads, services and police forces and sports persons took part. The event was also attended by India heads of WHO, UNODC and UNAIDS. The seminar held focused on reducing risk of HIV among drug users.
