On 13 - 14 March 2008, UNODC along with NGO partners, ATSEC Bihar and Manav Sewa Ashram, organized a two days training programme for the Investigating Officials of Samastipur District in North Bihar on Anti Human Trafficking. More than 50 Investigating and Supervisory officers and officials of the civil administration as well as the District Prosecutors participated in the training session. The programme was inaugurated by the District Magistrate, Dr. Saravanan. The key resource persons included Dr. P. M. Nair, Project Coordinator, UNODC, Mr. Kamlesh Kumar of Manav Sewa Ashram and several others.

The district administration extended full support for this training programme undertaken by the UNODC along with ATSEC Bihar. The District Magistrate provided his meeting hall for conducting the two days training session and was conspicuous by his presence throughout the first two sessions. He also welcomed the initiative by the UNODC and called upon the law enforcement agencies to take full advantage of such trainings. Three Deputy Superintendents of Police remained present throughout the training sessions.

The training sessions generated a lot of interest among the local print and visual media, who stayed on during the entire duration of the forenoon sessions. After the conclusion of the first two sessions, the media raised a lot of pertinent questions with respect to the situation of human trafficking. The local media had covered the programme very well, both in the visual and print media.
