Keeping prisons free from drugs emphasised

The inaugural function of a 4-day training workshop to prevent HIV began at the Mahbub Kabir Auditorium of BIAM Foundation in the city yesterday, says a press release.

The workshop began yesterday which will end on Jan 17.

Dhaka Ahsania Mission, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime ROSA (UNODC ROSA) and Directorate of Drugs Control organising the event.

Presided over by Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) President Kazi Rafiqul Alam, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Home Ministry Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. UNODC ROSA Consultant Dr Joydeb Sarangi and UNODC Bangladesh Advisor Dr Md Mozammel Haque were present as guest at the inaugural ceremony.

Programme Director Shafiqul Islam of DAM delivered the address of welcome.

After the inaugural ceremony, Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid unveiled the cover of 'Peer Guide'. The objective of this 'Peer Guide' is to help imparting training to the prison officers, staffs and incarcerated persons which includes HIV, Drug and basic life skills training.

It is important to free prisons from drugs, speakers said at the opening function of the training workshop.

A total of twenty-two persons from Police, Home Ministry, Directorate of Prison and Directorate of Drug Control are participating in the workshop.
