26th June Celebrated in
Tihar Jail, New Delhi
In collaboration with the Tihar Prison Administration (New Delhi), an event was organized at the Jail No.1, Tihar Complex, where more than 3000 incarcerated persons , from 9 prisons in Delhi, came together to commemorate 26 June 2008 . The programme for the evening included role-plays and songs on drug prevention, experience sharing by recovered and recovering users. Representatives from prisons, national and international organizations, and prominent members of the community were present at the occasion. Ms. Ashita Mittal, Officer-in-Charge UNODC ROSA was the one of the chief guests. A large number of UNODC staff members also attended the programme.
The inmates exhibited their creativity through paintings, poetry, and slogan writings. These painting were not just minor colour spills on the canvas but where 'anything but ordinary'. They depicted their own various experiences, phases and interpretations of lives. The role plays and songs sung by them drew out the unforeseen talent in them.
