UNODC Regional Office for South Asia, in collaboration with media and corporate houses, such as Indian Express, ZEE News and UniStyle Image, commemorated 9th December, the International Anti Corruption Day, by engaging young minds in an important and essential dialogue- a dialogue against corruption.
Among many other events,
an essay writing competition in the schools of Delhi was initiated from 2 - 6 December 2008. The prize winning entries featured in a
special page dedicated by the Indian Express to the issue of Anti-Corruption on the 9th of December (Express Newsline).
The prizes were co-sponsored by Uni Style Image and UNODC ROSA.
UNODC ROSA office hosted the prize distribution ceremony, which was attended by distinguished dignitaries from ROSA's corporate partners.
Mr. Rohit Kumar - Associate Vice President Marketing, Zee News; Mr. Ashwinder Singh, Managing Director, Unistyle Image; Mr. N.P. Singh, Director, Indian Express, were present to encourage the students.
Mr. B. Aakash (VIII B,St Paul's School),
Ms. Vani Mehra (XI Commerce , Tagore International School) and
Ms. Udita Makhija (X A, Blue Bells Model Sr. Secondary School)
were the top three winners. Along with them, 6 other top students whose essays were considered amongst the best were :

The prize distribution was followed by a lively discussion in which experiences were shared and views expressed. Students strongly put across their views on corruption, corrupt practices and measures to contain them. They expressed their keen interest to take the message of the 'Your 'No' Counts' campaign to other schools and mobilize the student community. The students also recommended the need to strengthen democratic institutions, increase government's accountability, electoral reforms and stressed upon good governance as some of the anti-corruption measures.
