Professionally Approaching the Drug Law Enforcement

Regional Training Programme by Project XSA/J81

UNODC ROSA Project XSA/J81, in collaboration with the National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics (NACEN) of the Government of India, is actively working on its mission to strengthen the drug law enforcement capacities in South Asia.

As a part of the Regional Training Plan, a Training Programme on "Drug Law Enforcement" was organized in Chennai from 24 -26 November 2008. Mr. K.Vijayakumar, Director General of Police (Training), Tamilnadu, while, inaugurating the programme, emphasized on the importance of drug law enforcement courses and the need to adopt professional approach in tackling such organized crimes.

The program saw participation from various drug law enforcement agencies of Maldives, Sri Lanka and India; in total, 21 participants were trained on all aspects of drug law enforcement. The program included group discussion on drug trafficking trends and group activities which facilitated cross fertilization of ideas among the participants.

The Valedictory function was graced by Mr. N. P. Singh, Additional Director General of Police, Crime Branch, Chennai. The session became lively with the participants sharing the experiences gained.
