Keeping the Faith

In a multi-ethnic country like India, where the participation of philosophy and religious debate in daily life cannot be ignored, the vehicle of faith becomes an ever so important medium of influence. Now more than ever before, UNODC is realizing the value of using this vehicle to transport the message of substance abuse prevention to the young minds of thousands of youth across the nation.

With the Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJJS), UNODC has had a long standing and meaningful partnership of three years. Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (Divine Light Awakening Mission), is a socio-spiritual-cultural not-for profit organisation, which is functioning dexterously to promote the ultimate need of humanity - "Perpetual Peace and Eternal Bliss".

DJJS's vision is to develop a model society wherein development is based on inherent strength, multiple faiths and ideologies harmoniously settled on the peaceful grounds of spirituality. By dint of hard work, perseverance, and ceaseless efforts over the years, the organisation has emerged as a major socio-spiritual-cultural organisation with branches all over India and abroad.

Along with Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan's Drug Abuse Eradication Programme 'Bodh', UNODC has created greater awareness in numerous community and school settings of Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Delhi and Punjab. UNODC's messages on prevention of substance use are being actively spread through their strong volunteer base of over a lakh committed individuals

In addition to this successful and meaningful association at the community level, UNODC is also working with the DJJS to develop and to take forward a substance abuse prevention programme in workplace settings, particularly to companies that are part of the Information Technology and the Business Process Outsourcing industries. 15 eminent companies from this sector in Bangalore have already been reached, with plans to take this initiative to other cites as well.
