Project Advisory Committee / Tripartite Review meeting of Regional Precursor Control Project in South and South West Asia (RAS H60), New Delhi, 2 August 2008

Contributed by Mr. K. Raghavan and Ms. Arti Kukreja,  Project : RAS/H60

  Meeting in progress

RAS H60 is a drug supply reduction project that focuses on strengthening the law enforcement capabilities of countries in South and South West Asia in the specialized area of precursor chemical control. The project seeks to establish a sound legal and administrative regime, strengthen institutional training capacities, upgrade laboratories, establish bilateral, regional cooperation mechanisms, empower member countries to achieve UNGASS and related common/country specific goals, integrate the effort of industry and trade with law enforcement, set up effective working mechanisms and establish an institutional information exchange mechanism.

The project has made substantial progress in creating awareness on precursor control in the region and further strengthened core areas and institutionalized them. Nearing completion of two years of activity and with the project duration till December 2008, the Project Advisory Committee met to conduct a Tripartite Review with the participating member countries, donors and the project team. An evaluation report prepared and circulated in advance to all the member countries formed the basis for review. All member countries were present including representatives from the two donors - the Government of India and the US government.

The member states and donors praised the project for its excellent work in effective implementation and being proactive and developing synergy at regional level. The PAC / TPR recommended its extension beyond December 2008.
