Obituary of Jacob Ralte
Jacob Ralte was born on 1st September 1977
He completed higher secondary. He was a very decent and sociable person. He was regarded by all who knew him. He endeared himself to many through his amicable nature and his love for music. He was a member of 'Rock Street Journal' (RSJ), a music group, and was a gospel counselor for TNT, Aizawl, Mizoram.
He struggled with drug addiction for a decade. It was at the New Hope Drop in Centre (which was initiated by UNODC), that he received counseling, motivation and support from the service providers, who themselves were in recovery. It was with the help of these service providers he attained sobriety. He was attached to the DIC as a volunteer for 6 months. During the six months as a volunteer he demonstrated zeal, enthusiasm, commitment and deep concern for the current users. He had strong empathy for problem of drug user and motivated many to LCCS organized at Shillong by the H13 team. Because of the keen interest in his work that he was promoted to peer outreach worker of project H13, the intervention site at Shillong, with effect from December 2006. He was fully engrossed in his work till his sudden demise on 10th September 2007, after a brief illness.
