Training the trainers

UNODC ROSA Project XSA/J81 has been actively working on its mission to strengthen the drug law enforcement capacities in South Asia, in collaboration with the National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics (NACEN) of the Government of India.

To improve the regional training capacity, two Training of Trainers (ToTs) programmes, were organized at NACEN, Faridabad, from 20 -23 October 2008 and 03 - 06 November 2008.

Mr. Jose Cyriac, Additional Secretary, Government of India, inaugurated the programmes and highlighted the initiatives taken by India in tackling the drug menace in the region. Mr. Cyriac also stressed on the need for enhancing the capacities of the drug law enforcement agencies. The activity, funded by the Government of India, was a part of the Regional Training Plan.

51 participants, including senior level officers from the drug law enforcement agencies in the South Asian region viz. Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka, were trained. The program included interesting group activities, country presentations and sessions on training techniques and methodologies as well. The trainers will conduct drug law enforcement training programmes in their respective countries.
