Dr. Vivek Jain, Consultant, Project H13 (Prevention of transmission of HIV among drug users in SAARC Countries) provided a practical training on 'RSRA-Midline Software' to the partner agencies. The RRTCs and partner agencies had been prior provided with the software. RSRA midline questionnaires (both for Drug Users and their Regular Sex Partners) were also shared; several issues esp. problems faced by Project staff during data collection, compilation and data entry into the software, during RSRA Baseline, were discussed. Participants included Team Leader, Peer Outreach Coordinator (POC) and other concerned Project Staff from each of the partner agencies (See Participants List below).

Consultant apprised the participants of the purpose and usefulness of RSRA in the project and discussed the different sections of the questionnaires. With the aid of a LCD projector, detailed step-wise procedure was demonstrated for installation of the software and data entry for each questionnaire separately. Emphasis was laid upon the timely and complete data entry and submission for analysis. Several clarifications were provided for the queries raised by the participants. Towards the end of each training session, concerned staffs from each of the partner agencies and RRTC were asked to do a mock software installation and data entry exercise. The exercise evoked a participatory and welcome response from all the participants.

Participants' Feedback

Almost all the participants expressed satisfaction with the content and usefulness of the RSRA Midline training.

"Now we know the importance of doing RSRA at our NGO level. It will help us carry out our interventions much more effectively and will serve as an indicator of our achievements till date on ground!"

At the end of a mock-data-entry-exercise, one of the participants commented "Having done the data entry myself in front of trainer himself, now I am more confident of handling the software alone. And may be I can go back and even train other colleagues in my organization."

Consultant also undertook field visits to the project partner sites; met project staff and reviewed the progress of project activities.
