Mauritius delegation's visit

A Mauritian delegation of 12 persons, comprising government officials and NGOs, visited the office of UNODC ROSA, New Delhi on 20 September 2006.  The team is in India as part of the orientation programme that they are indergoing on the topic "Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Women and Children for Commercial Sexual Exploitation".
This programme is being organized by the National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child development (NIPCCD), New Delhi, under the aegis of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.  It forms part of the Indo-Mauritius Cultural Exchange programme.
The delegation witnessed a presentation by the UNODC officials on the anti-human-trafficking activities that UNODC is undertaking in India and South Asia. The members of the delegation were keen to learn more about the UNODC approach to building partnerships between governments and civil society to prevent and combat human trafficking.
They were also eager to understand the dimensions of the empowerment and capacity-building programmes that have been initiated in India for the police and prosecutors under project IND/S16.
The officials of NIPCCD noted that the recommendations of the Team will be shared with the Government of India.
