UNODC, ROSA in collaboration with the Drug Control Programme, Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal has recently conducted a National Training Programme to address HIV prevention amongst incarcerated substance users from 21st to 25th of August 2006 at Hotel Orchid Tripureshwor, Kathmandu, Nepal. Total 25 participants comprising senior/middle level officers drawn from Prisons, Police, Ministry of Home Affairs, Drug Control Programme and Non-governmental organizations participated in the National Training Programme. Among these 10 were Jail Officers (Superintendents and Jailors), 3 were police staff of jail, 2 medical personnel from prison officials, 1 person from Ministry of Home Affairs, 2 persons from Drug Control Programme, Nepal and 7 were from Non Governmental Organizations working in substance abuse and HIV/AIDS.
The Resource Persons were drawn from the master trainers trained at the Regional TOT (6-10 February, Delhi, India), senior Ministry Officials dealing with Prison, drug and HIV prevention (ie. Director General of Prison, Joint Secretary, Home Ministry and others), academiation, NGOs and PLHAs.
The participants and the senior officials expressed their interest to take this training programme to district level with the help of participants of the National training programme.
The Peer-guide published by UNODC, ROSA was used and field-tested in the National Training Programme.
