The Status of Precursor Chemicals in Bhutan

Contributed by K. Raghavan, Project Officer, RAS/H60

The Status of Precursor Chemicals in Bhutan - A report based on 2008 Survey

The project RAS/H60 rendered financial and technical support to the Bhutan Narcotic Control Agency (BNCA) for conducting a Base line survey on precursor chemicals in Bhutan. The objective of the survey was to compile basic information to enable BNCA to take stock of the situation and make policy and administrative interventions. The survey was conducted from 21 January to 27 February 2008 at Phuntsholing, Gomtu, Samtse, Samdrupjongkhar, Galephu and Thimphu. During the survey, BNCA identified the precursor chemicals imported into Bhutan along with the quantities and its usage by collecting details from various industry, traders, institutions and regulatory authorities. It also identified the key players in the field. BNCA has forwarded a report entitled "The Status of Precursor Chemicals in Bhutan".
