Internship Programmes at UNODC Indonesia Programme Office

UNODC Indonesia Programme Office offers two internship programmes:

  • Internship in Programming
  • Internship in Administration

Before applying, please read the internship descriptions carefully to determine which internship is most suitable for you given your educational background and qualifications.

Internship in Programming

Terms of Reference

1. Objectives of the programme

The mission of UNODC Indonesia Programme Office is to promote and facilitate actions against transnational organised crime, corruption, money laundering, and drugs and HIV.

The internship programme aims at providing an opportunity for outstanding graduate and postgraduate students to acquire practical experience in UNODC's programme work on drugs and crime, more specifically relating to:

2. Main Activities

This Internship Programme comprises the following training activities:

  • The intern will review relevant information and documents related to UNODC's work in order to acquire a basic understanding of the mandates, strategies, and framework of programmes/activities of the organization
  • The intern will assist the office in maintaining close contact with relevant UN agencies and other partners and stakeholders
  • The intern will assist in the planning and organisation of meetings and workshops
  • The intern will conduct research and gather documentation for the preparation of technical papers and speeches
  • The intern will be involved in selected field work and programme/project activities

3. Qualifications

Candidates for the internship programme will be selected on a competitive basis. The following qualifications are required:

  • Enrolment in a graduate degree programme of a recognised institution in the field of political and social science, economics, public and business administration, law, or other related programmes. Candidates are eligible to apply before or after completion of their studies
  • Strong interest in working with the UN system and a special interest in the mandate of UNODC
  • Fluency in English speaking, reading and writing. Knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia is an asset
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and being a strong team player

4. Financial Aspects

The UNODC Internship programme operates on a non-remunerative basis. All costs including travel, visa, and accommodation must be borne by the nominating institution or government or by the students themselves.

5. Terms of Appointment

Duration of the internship is from 3 to 6 months. Interns are required to work fulltime during office hours. Time is allowed for outside research and interviews.

6. Duty Station

The intern will be working at the UNODC Indonesia Programme Office in Jakarta.

Internship in Administration

Terms of Reference

1. Objectives of the programme

The mission of UNODC Indonesia Programme Office is to promote and facilitate actions against transnational organized crime, corruption, money laundering, and drugs and HIV.

This internship programme aims at providing an opportunity for students to gain practical working experience in the administrative functions and processes underpinning the UNODC Indonesia Programme Office.

2. Main Activities of the Administrative Interns

This internship programme comprises the following training activities:

  • The intern will assist in optimising and maintaining the archiving system and related processes
  • The intern will assist in office procurement
  • The intern will undertake logistical work tasks, e.g. booking of flights and accommodation for official meetings and training activities
  • The intern might be able to take part in staff trainings related to administration

3. Qualifications

Candidates for the Internship Programme will be selected on a competitive basis. The following minimum qualifications are required:

  • Enrolment in a graduate degree programme of a recognized institution in the field of administration, logistics or other relevant programmes. Candidates are eligible to apply before or after completion of their studies
  • Strong interest in working with the UN system
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Bahasa Indonesia with fluency in speaking, reading and writing
  • Good knowledge of essential computer software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and being a strong team player
