Inter-Country Consultation on HIV Prevention among Injecting Drug Users

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran hosted an Inter-country Consultation on HIV Prevention among Injecting Drug Users on 17-22 April 2006. The conference was co-sponsored by the World Bank, the UNODC and the UNAIDS. Government officials and programme managers from Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan participated in this conference. The meeting was extremely successful in terms of corss fertilization and exchange of best practices and experiences at the regional level. Issues on perspectives on HIV among injecting drug users, socio-economic determinants of drug use and HIV, implementing and accelerating the programmes on HIV prevention were among topics discussed.
