UNODC Country Representative attended the 9th Meeting of the Islamic Republic of Iran Police Forces with Ambassadors, Charge d' Affairs and Representatives of International Organization

 

Tehran, 10 th October 2018 - Mr. Alexander Fedulov, Country Representative of UNODC Iran attended the 9 th Meeting of the Islamic Republic of Iran Police Forces with Ambassadors, Charge d' Affairs and Representatives of International Organization. The Meeting was held on the occasion of a week dedicated to the Police Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and hosted ambassadors, representatives and military attaches of diplomatic missions in Tehran. At national level, senior governmental authorities from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Intelligence, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Justice, Military Forces Headquarters, Army, Judiciary and Drug Control Headquarters joined the Meeting.

 

In his opening statement, Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari, Chief Commander of Police of the Islamic Republic of Iran highlighted the unique geopolitical characteristics of the country and praised the efforts of national police forces in combating drugs trafficking, transnational organized crimes, terrorism and cyber-attacks. He highlighted the significant role which domestic police forces play in applying safety policies and security measures.

 

 

 

Outlining the international challenges which his country has confronted in the past four decades, His Excellency Ambassador Hossein Dehghani Deputy Ministry of Foreign Affairs on International Legal Affairs commended active play of national police forces with states polices at bilateral level and their dynamic partnerships in international forums, i.e., United Nations, Interpol, Economic Cooperation Organization and other organs at multilateral level. He addressed the vast set of critical problems which Iran's neighbors are tackling with in fight against internationally known terrorist groups such as ISIS (DAESH), Taliban and Al Qaida and pointed on successful combats and operations of Iran's military forces.

In his welcoming remarks, Brigadier General Hadi Shirzad, Head of International Affairs of Police and Director General of Interpol Tehran referred to productive cooperation between Iran and states polices and expressed his office's readiness to expand police to police relations in the areas of combating drugs trafficking, transnational organized crimes, trafficking in persons, smuggling of migrants, terrorism, cybercrimes, mutual legal assistance and extradition.

 

 

While addressing invitees, the Iranian senior governmental authorities referred to their partnerships with UNODC and raised their willingness and interests to expand further collaborations on UNODC's mandates. On the margins of Meeting, Mr. Alexander Fedulov, Country Representative of UNODC Iran had separate meetings with Chief Commander of Police, Deputy Ministry of Foreign Affairs on International Legal Affairs, Director General of Interpol Tehran and Ambassador of Australia in Tehran.
