International Legal Consultant

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) seeks to achieve security and justice for all by helping States and their peoples to guard against the serious threats posed to human security by global challenges.
 
The UNODC country office in the Lao PDR is seeking an International Legal Consultant to work in the area of organized crime, human trafficking and closely related issues.
 
Duty station: Vientiane, Lao PDR
 
Duration: 5 months (over a period of 1 year)
 
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
·          Carry out workshops over a period of 1 year;
·          Design and facilitate the preparation of standardized technical training materials;
·          Assist in coordinating project implementation and specified project activities;
·          Contribute to updating relevant technical assistance tools;
·          Undertake consultations on related project issues with relevant governmental and non-governmental organizations.
·          Provide inputs for programming , documents, and strategy papers;
·          Prepare draft analysis of laws and regulations in specialized areas.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
·          Advanced university degree in law and criminal justice with a specialization in international aspects of crime and justice issues;
·          At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in legal counsel on crime prevention and criminal justice issues, preferably with a focus on transnational organized crime or closely related issues;
·          Work experience in technical assistance activities, including project management;
·          Familiarity with the modalities of international cooperation for development
·          Knowledge of the work of UNODC is desirable;
·          Published articles on the legal aspects of transnational organized crime or related topics are an asset;
·          Fluency in English with excellent drafting and communication skills. Knowledge of the lao language or another United Nations official language is highly desirable.
