WHAT IS POD?

The Opportunities and Rights Programme (POD, by its acronym in Portuguese) was created to provide higher life quality to the youth of the state of Rio Grande do Sul and to ensure dignity and development for many families. Focusing on the personal and professional growth of the participants, also strengthening security and modernising the socio-educational structure and system, POD is a development tool.

WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAMME?

POD intents to bring more active citizenship to young people, guaranteeing their rights, promoting their development and creating opportunities to have more dignity and stability. The result of the programme will be a more prepared youth for the labor market, stronger communities, more security, reducing crime and recidivism, and greater socioeconomic development in the state.

HOW DOES POD ACT?

By investing in education, in sports, in culture, entrepreneurship, public security and socio-educational care, POD acts as a pioneering and complete public policy to create opportunities for young people and to improve the quality of life of communities. In the 6 Youth Centers, the objective is to serve, on an annual basis, 3,600 young people aged 15 to 24 years old, offering professional qualification and leisure activities. In the communities served, the implementation of community policing promotes the rapprochement between the police officers and residents, offering more security to the living spaces. For young people who comply with socio-educational measures and their families, besides ensuring modern and qualified service, the programme promotes social reintegration and a future with more opportunities.
