||RISEs objective is to provide educational, vocational and health-related services for at-risk populations in order to facilitate healthy, fulfilling and productive lifestyle choices.
Its focus was shifted to primary and secondary prevention in 1995 due to a lack of financial support for drug treatment, and the obvious need for education and drug prevention services, hence the name change to RISE, an acronym for Reaching Individuals through Skills and Education.
RISEs programmes and activities will reflect all those which were previously been carried out by Addiction Alert, including the major community intervention for at-risk youth known as SYMBA (Stimulating Young Minds to Become Achievers). This programme includes the provision of Educational, Social and Life Management services to adolescents whose academic competencies are below their grade levels.
All training programmes utilize interactive and participatory methodologies. Where appropriate, drama, dance and music are utilized as teaching techniques.
