||Since its founding in 1994, HCLU has established itself among Hungary's leading human rights organisations. It works independently of the Government and all political parties and aims to raise awareness of the rights embodied in the Hungarian Constitution and in the conventions to which Hungary is a signatory.
The organisation concentrates on fields where violations of law are most likely to occur and where victims are especially exposed. Typical areas of interest to HCLU include:
- the relationship between the right to privacy and freedom of information;
- the rights of patients;
- the rights of drugs users; and
- the coercive powers often exercised by authority.
