Short description:
The African Network for the Prevention and Protection Against Child Abuse and neglect (ANPPCAN) Liberia Chapter, was founded in the late 2001. It is the national chapter of ANPPCAN, a pan-African child rights organization founded in 1986 in Enugu Nigeria. It is legally registered in Liberia as a national Non-Governmental and Non-profit Organization


Our mission is to enhance children and women rights protection through building capacities of the local communities to protect their own children and women. ANPPCAN - Liberia is addressing issues of children and women abuse, exploitation and neglect, which have been escalated by the civil conflict of the last 14 years

ACHIEVEMENTS:
ANPPCAN Liberia Chapter has worked in Grand Gedeh, Lofa, Bong, Nimba, Grand Bassa, Margibi, Grand Cape Mount, Bomi and Montserrado Counties.
Between 2002 and 2009, most of ANPPCAN programs have being implemented in the following target areas among others:


• Creating women’s friendly policing in Nimba and Grand Gedeh Counties with funding from UNIFEM, (2008 – Present);
• Safer School Campaign (2008 – Present);
• Support to HIV/AIDS orphans and vulnerable children in Grand Cape Mount and Margibi Counties with funding from UNICEF, (2007 – 2008);
• Serving as local partner for CYCLE Project to IRC in withdrawing children from child labor in Montserrado County with funding from USDOL, (2005 – Present);
• Family Tracing and Reunification Programs in Grand Cape Mount County with funding from UNICEF, (2007);
• Project on reducing Sexual Gender Based Violence in Montserrado and Magibi Counties with funding from UNIFEM, (2007 – 2008);
• Sexual Exploitation and abuse (SEA) in schools in Montserrado County, with funding from UNICEF, (2006 – 2008);
• Carried out Community Opinion Survey measuring the impacts of the DDRR Program among ex combatants with funding from JIU/UNDP, (2006);
• Established Child Friendly Neighborhood Assemblies and SGBV Reporting Desks in 3 communities in Margibi, Bomi and Montserrado Counties with funding from the Norwegian Human Rights Fund, (2005);
• Carried out Hygiene Promotion in 19 public schools in Montserrado County with funding from UNICEF – Liberia, (2005);
• Carried out Rapid Assessment on the situation of children on rubber plantations in Bomi, Montserrado and Margibi Counties with funding from UNICEF, (2005);
• Developed Training Manual for the training of Liberian Police Recruits on issues surrounding child protection and SGBV with funding from UNICEF, (2004);
• Trained more than 2,000 police recruits on issues surrounding child protection and SGBV with funding from UNICEF, (2004 – 2005);
• Undertook 6 months Education and Sensitization Program for ex combatants undergoing the disarmament and demobilization process at the cantonment sites in Lofa, Grand Gedeh, Grand Bassa, Bong, Bomi and Maryland Counties, with funding from UNDP/JIU, (2004);
• Mobilization of community members and school children leading to the creation of child rights clubs in Bomi, Margibi and Montserrado Counties, (2003);
• Policy Advocacy Campaigns that led to the ratification of the ILO Convention 182 by the Liberian Government, (2002). ILO Convention 182 bans the Worst Forms of child labor.
