Short description:
NICRO, as national non-profit organization, regards crime as threat to democracy and individual rights. Though people centred development and services to victims, offenders and communities NICRO strenghens a human rights culture and a safer South Africa.
NICRO is the only NGO in South Africa providing comprehensive crime reduction and prevention services. It has pioneered many services that have been integrated into mainstream practice, incorporated into lagislation and form the backbone of South African social welfare practice. NICRO is an acknoledged leader in the field of criminal Justice, an innovator in the field of victim empowerment and violence againsst women.
NICRO addresses the transformation of the child justice system. Violent and sexual crimes committed by juveniles are set to rise further, with perpetrators becoming younger- but young people still pass trough the criminal justice system and are inappropriately imprisoned.
