Drug prevention work in Nigeria is to significant degree undertaken by the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). A number of NGOs, despite financial limitations, are doing valuable work in the fields of prevention, awareness creation, T&R and research at the local levels. The NGOs have through hard work formed a Network for Drug Demand Reduction (NNDDR), which has made some progress in networking among the members.

The media has made significant strides in improving understanding on drug problems and control activities among the practitioners. This has invariably contributed to the substantial media coverage of drug-related activities and increased public enlightenment.
