Lagos State Deputy Governor Commits to Fight Against Trafficking in Persons
On 28 June, a joint UNODC - NAPTIP team visited the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Hon. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire. The Deputy Governor pledged her government's support to the implementation of the National Plan of Action against Human Trafficking. An outcome of the visit was an invitation by the Deputy Governor for a 2-day visit to inspect the rehabilitation and re-integration facilities for victims of crime and vocational training centres for the vulnerable groups in Lagos State. Since its inception in December 2005, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other related Matters (NAPTIP) zonal office in Lagos has rescued over 1500 TIP victims within the Lagos zone alone and some of the victims have been rehabilitated in the Lagos state correctional centre.
