On 20 April 2011, UNODC handed over ICT equipment worth over 5 million Naira to NAPTIP as part of the UNODC implemented project "Capacity Building for NAPTIP's Implementation of the Action Plan against Human Trafficking". More specifically the following items were procured:


  • Twenty (20) Standard PCS;
  • Twenty (20) HP LE1711 17";
  • Twenty (20) MS Office professional 2010; and
  • Twenty (20) UPS.


This equipment will help increase NAPTIP's zonal offices operational capacities and communication capability; establish quicker, more efficient linkages between NAPTIP's National Monitoring Centre and its zonal offices thereby improving information exchange, knowledge management and coordination of its various activities said UNODC's Country Representative ad interim, Mr. Oliver Stolpe .


The project which is funded by the Governments of Switzerland, Finland and Norway and has a long-term objective of preventing and combat human trafficking in Nigeria in compliance with the UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons,   Especially Women and Children, which was ratified by Nigeria on 28 June 2001


Receiving the equipment on behalf of NAPTIP the Executive Secretary of NAPTIP, Mr. Simon Chuzi Egede  thanked the donors for their support and acknowledged the integral role that UNODC has played in strengthening of NAPTIP's capacity. Highlighting the various achievements of the project so far, Mr. Egede gave an assurance that the computers will be put to judicious use and noted that the computers will enhance the optimal performance of the agency by facilitating effective monitoring/data sharing between NAPTIP's headquarters and its zonal operatives.
