The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)  and UNODC Nigeria along with other stakeholders marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking 2011 by 6 days of activities including a press briefing, youth forum, anti-drug rally, religious services, the launch of the World Drug Report and a grand finale event. On 24 June, UNODC launched the World Drug Report under the chairmanship of H.E Dr. Stefan Scholz the Ambassador of Austria. According to the report, global drug markets remained stable though the production and abuse of prescription opioid drugs and new synthetic drugs rose. UNODC's Representative a.i Mr. Oliver Stolpe, disclosed that about 210 million people aged 15-64, took illicit substances at least once in the previous year. Furthermore,  Illicit drug production in Africa is mainly focused on cannabis while there could be an amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS) production capacity emerging in the region.
