Brief Description

Increased participation in international trade is an essential part of sustainable development. The aim of the Container Control Programme is to assist the Government of Pakistan to improve the security in the containerized trade supply chain. Port Control Units (PCU's) will be established in the seaports of Karachi and Port Qasim, as well as in seven inland dry ports. These PCUs will serve to prevent illicit use of containers, including possible acts of terrorism, and also facilitate legitimate trade. The seaports and dry ports will undergo detailed assessments to identify training and equipment needs. Following the training workshops, established PCUs will have regular access to expert/mentor services. The Container Control Programme promotes partnerships between the relevant law enforcement agencies, and to develop closer cooperation and information exchange mechanisms and links to the trade and business community.
