Brief Description
This project aims to counter the problem of drug abuse and the spread of HIV/AIDS in four selected prisons through interventions that will enable prisoners to make their own informed choices vis-à-vis drug abuse, prison life, HIV/AIDS and their own future. The project is expected to serve as a model for the implementation of similar interventions in other prisons on a larger scale.
Objective: To introduce drug abuse treatment and rehabilitation and HIV/AIDS information services to prisons in Pakistan on sustainable basis;
Output 1:
Study to establish extent and nature of Drug Abuse and HIV/AIDS problems in prisons and carried and out discussed with stakeholders
Output 2:
Orientation training of prison staff in drug dependence treatment and HIV/AIDS prevention, at the central Prison Staff Training Institute, Lahore
Output 3:
Selection of four participating prisons
Output 4:
Drug dependence treatment and rehabilitation among drug-dependent prison inmate's programme and HIV/AIDS information programme among all prison population developed for four prisons

Drug Dependence Treatment & Rehabilitation programme and HIV/AIDS information implemented in four selected prisons

Follow up and social reintegration of recovered drug dependent persons/users after their release from prisons
