| | | Japanese Drug Abuse Prevention Centre contributions to Peru
Since 1995, JDAPC has run nationwide fundraising campaigns in many Japanese cities. They collect money in the streets, from the private sector and from civil society at large and help increase awareness among Japanese youth of the dangers of drug abuse. JDAPCs yearly contribution to UNODC is used for grants, ranging from $5000 to $20,000, which support non-governmental organizations in developing countries in their grass-roots activities for drug abuse prevention. Thanks to these contributions, UNODC has given more than 300 grants to NGOs in over 90 countries.
Peru has constantly benefited from JDAPC activities, receiving some US$ 113,000 during the last eight years. JDAPC is an important contributor to the fight against the drug problem and provides a great example of solidarity and commitment to the values of the United Nations.
