Panama's Prison Staff Receives Training on the Bangkok Rules

19 September 2013- Panama City

Within the framework of the Project "Supporting prison reform in Panama", UNODC conducted a training session based on the United Nations Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-custodial Measures for Women Offenders (the Bangkok Rules), reaching a total of  25 prison officials.

The Bangkok Rules have become a valuable and useful tool that will help to improve the conditions of women prisoners, considering for the first time the gender particularities and taking into account a comprehensive and universal vision of human rights.

The training session also included a brief review of the progress on the implementation of the Bangkok Rules in Panama. The facilitators were officers of the Prison System of Panama, and the UNODC project coordinator.
