Workshop on the Standards for the creation and /or adaptation of a national registry of detainees
On 25 and 26 of September 2013, UNODC ROPAN participated in the forum "Standards for the creation and /or adaptation of a national registry of detainees". The forum was held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and was organized by the Committee of Relatives of Disappeared Detainees in Honduras (COFADEH according to its acronym in Spanish), the Human Rights Center "Miguel Agustin Pro Juarez" (PRODH Center), in conjunction with the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL).
The objective of this forum was to facilitate a platform for discussion, allowing experts in this field to identify the minimum standards that must be included in a national registry of detainees, pertaining to the legality of detentions and the proper and timely monitoring of the chain of custody.
Ms. María-Noel Rodríguez, the Team Coordinator for Criminal Justice and Prison Reform, who is based in UNODC ROPAN, had the opportunity to present the Handbook on Prisoner File Management, which was translated into Spanish within the framework of the project " Supporting prison reform in Panama". This handbook is considered as a fundamental tool to obtain accurate, reliable and accessible information that contributes to promoting respect for the human rights of people deprived of liberty and strengthening the management of public authorities.
